Drug & Alcohol Chain of Custody Tests

The misuse of drugs and alcohol can negatively impact the safety, efficiency, and reputation of any organisation.

COPE has expertise in the development and implementation of successful drug and alcohol testing policies and procedures.

Pre-employment drug testing

Many organisations are including drugs and alcohol testing, prior to commencement of employment, as part of their recruitment policy (see also PEHA/PEQ). COPE works in conjunction with an accredited laboratory to undertake the collection of urine in line with chain of custody procedure to establish whether there has been any use of illicit drugs or the recent intake of alcohol. Subsequent advice is provided in terms of "fitness for employment".

For Cause

This test can be undertaken following an incident or accident at work where the employing organisation has a documented policy for drugs and alcohol testing following such events. This is undertaken in line with the chain of custody procedure to ensure a legally defensible specimen is obtained

Random

Random testing may be an advocated process for organisations engaging in safety critical work i.e. the rail industry. The process and collection procedure is in line with best clinical practice and governing standards as advocated by the appropriate advisory bodies, for example, The Railway Safety and Standards Board
