Pre, During & Exit Employment Assessment Testing

These are health assessments designed to screen individuals at differing stages of their employment; at pre-employment, during and exit employment.

Pre-employment/during employment

The main purpose of the pre-employment health assessment is to ensure that an individual has no pre-existing ill health or disabilities which may affect their ability to perform the proposed job. The assessment provides baseline data and consideration of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA).

You may wish to undertake screening of a job applicant’s health to complement your recruitment procedures, in order to:

Or you may undertake work that may expose new employees to certain risks and you have a legal obligation to conduct screening for these purposes (see Health Surveillance and Fitness for Work).

When considering transferring an existing employee to another job within your organisation it may be appropriate to review the pre-employment health assessment against their current health status e.g. transferring to duties such as fork lift truck driving or working at height.

Pre-exit/leavers health assessments

An exit health assessment is just as important, especially with the dramatic growth in compensation claims against past employers. COPE obtain objective data (for example, HAVS (hand arm vibration testing)) at the time of the employee’s exit to minimise risk and mitigate potential legislative action in forthcoming years.

Why choose COPE Occupational Health?

We can provide a number of solutions for these purposes, including paper/online questionnaires, telephone assessments or full face-to-face assessments.

We highly recommend that this process is linked in with your other health surveillance or fitness for work assessment requirements. We also recommend that this process is repeated when an employee transfers to a different role during their employment.
