Rehabilitation and Return to Work Programmes

There are many research papers and guidance documents now to evidence that “good work” is good for our health. This is supported through effective management practice when dealing with employees on long term absence. Examples of such programmes may include:

  • To involve them as early as possible in discussions about their rehabilitation and return to work programmes options.
  • Consider rehabilitation programmes via a multidisciplinary approach.

Why provide rehabilitation and return to work programmes?

Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and 2005 (DDA) there is a legal requirement on employers to consider reasonable adjustments for employees who have a medical diagnosis or condition that affects them such that the act could apply.  Return to work/rehabilitation programmes could qualify as such reasonable adjustments.
