Skin Assessment (for COSHH)

Skin assessments entail the questioning of symptoms and a physical check of the condition of an employee’s skin by a qualified health practitioner.

Employees working with substances hazardous to skin are required to complete a questionnaire and undergo a clinical examination on a periodic basis. Some substances require the examination to be carried out by an appointed doctor.

When should I be performing these tests on my employees?

Under The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH), employees working with substances that are known to cause damage to the skin in the form of irritation and/or sensitisation (such as the most common condition known as Occupational Dermatitis) will require assessment of their skin condition.

Why choose COPE for your skin assessments?

COPE will always provide a fully qualified and competent health practitioner to conduct these tests on your employees. We can arrange either individual appointments at our Nottingham Clinic or we can visit your site to provide “in-house” testing sessions. We can also combine this testing with your other health surveillance and/or fitness for work assessments needs if required.

The assessment will entail a paper health questionnaire and a physical check of the employee’s skin condition by a qualified and competent Practitioner.

Employees undergoing these assessments will require periodic reviews, the frequency of which will depend on risk, clinical need and HSE guidelines.

Some employees that are identified as having new or worsening symptoms may require referral to our Occupational Health Physician.
